Gorge

Here is a more finalized image of the gorge pictures shown in the Junkpile gallery. This version of the image looks much nicer and takes advantage of POV 3.5's handy radiosity capabilities. This image now shows up at random amongst the other intro pictures on the intro page.
The walls and the boulders were made from sPatch models. The waterfall was created using Chris Colefax's 'splash' plugin for POV-Ray. Chris was kind enough to provide me with a beta copy of a macro version of his 'splash' utility with some added features which worked out great! There is one light source in this scene... it is just around the bend to the left. Radiosity takes care of the rest of the indirect lighting. I love it!

Fjords

This is an image of a heavily eroded river valley leading out to the sea, with the sun setting in the west. The height field for this scene was created in POV using the marble pattern, with some creative warp turbulence.

Coastline

This scene uses the same height field as 'Fjords', but with a different camera position, new lighting, and a whole new color scheme.

Crystal Valley

Here we have a rocky valley with a stream running through it... and large columns of crystals sprouting from the ground.

For the curious, both the foreground & background height fields were generated with POV. The Crystals are also a special height field generated with POV.

Mesa Dawn v3

This is the final version of my 'Mesa Dawn' series of pictures. I eliminated the earlier versions to free up some disk space.

This image was created using several of POV 3.0's new features. The planet's glowing atmosphere was done with a halo using an isotropic dust model. The clouds and the sun's firey halo used the transmit channel, along with the turbulated ground fog. The height field used for the mesas was originally hand-drawn, then run through a POV 'filter' scene that I created to increase its resolution to a 16-bit greyscale depth, giving it MUCH smoother features.

I modified this picture using Nathan Kopp's really slick lens-flare plugin for POV 3.0. Thanks, Nathan!

Mountains

Again you have a splendid example of my astounding ability to come up with creatives names for my pictures. ;) This is still under construction, of course. I've got a great background, but.... see that nice, conveniently flat area on the central peak? Well, sooner or later, I'm going to stick a castle in there. Made of polished white marble. Or something. The only problem is that I need some pictures of castles to work from. Anyone have anything I can use?

Seaside

Just your normal, average, low resolution rocky coast. Oh, and wavy water. The deal with this pic (which I still need to finish) is that the water is actually wavy, not just a perturbed normal flat surface. :) Makes for GREAT 3D waves. Now I just need a decent boat to plow through 'em.

Canyon

This is an ancient old old old pic that I did when I first began experimenting with hand-drawn height fields. This is here as a special favor to a friend who expressed some interest in it.
