Fjords

This is an image of a heavily eroded river valley leading out to the sea, with the sun setting in the west. The height field for this scene was created in POV using the marble pattern, with some creative warp turbulence.

Gorgeous. I've always liked this one. I can see myself there.

Wow... this is definitely going to be my new background; great work, Daniel.

Wow, that is really nice. Seriously.

Coastline

This scene uses the same height field as 'Fjords', but with a different camera position, new lighting, and a whole new color scheme.

I like it, though I think the sun is too high in the sky to have such pink-edged clouds. :) Add a sunset cast to everything or whiten those clouds, I guess. Otherwise, I think the way the rocky cliffs on the left closest to the viewer look wet is superb. Also, this effect looks like ripples, a vast improvement on those waves earlier in 'Coastline'

Star Cruiser

This is my attempt to create a Star Trek-ish type space ship. I think I was attempting to create something that I could plug into other scenes that I had already finished in order to generate something new and interesting. I suppose I got bored/discouraged with this effort and never took it any further.

I think the placement of the 'windows' is great, but what's the ring supposed to be outside the ship? Is it a glass walkway for the residents?

Uh... that's classified.

*laugh* Classified. Figures. :)

Feathers McGraw

This was my second entry into the IRTC, for the September-November '97 Arts & Entertainment round. I didn't have enough time to work on this picture because of massive schoolwork, so I had to submit it 'as is'. It didn't perform well, placing 22nd out of 80 (or so) entries. Feathers was modeled using sPatch, as was the chair and ottoman. The rest of the scene was modeled by hand, with the exception of the silhouette of the Techno-Trousers, which I drew (by hand) in Paint Shop Pro.

Three cheers for Wallace and Gromit! When are you going to get back into doing entries for the IRTC? :)

I think the real question is: 'when am I going to get back into rendering in general?' I've got the computing power for it now -- all I have to do is pry myself away from the games long enough to spend some time thinking and tinkering. I also seem to be lacking from inspiration, too. *sigh*

Crystal Valley

Here we have a rocky valley with a stream running through it... and large columns of crystals sprouting from the ground.

For the curious, both the foreground & background height fields were generated with POV. The Crystals are also a special height field generated with POV.

It's not really my style. I keep thinking 'bed of really sharp pointy objects' and 'a poor giant wouldn't be able to walk around barefoot here, would he!'
